Functional Apparel Technical Designer

Grand Forest Inc., a chainsaw protective apparel manufacturer, is looking for an Apparel Technical Designer to enhance our team of motivated professionals. This position will work to bring products from approved design to apparel production, though technical specifications, training manuals and quality assurance. Key Responsibilities

  • Work creatively within the production development team to bring quality safety products to market.
    • Collaborate with Product Manager and Product Developer to determine product line direction
    • Coordinate implementation of new products in the line
    • Manage the development, implementation and ongoing review and revision of tech packs, quality standards, bill of materials and bill of labor
  • Prototype Creation
    • Work with Product Developer to collect vision and purpose of design\
    • Create prototypes with innovative techniques and strong sewing knowledge
  • Pattern Making/Grading
    • Create initial, revision and final patterns for designs to go to production
    • Grade patterns with the user in mind
  • Production Training Coordination
    • Work with Trainer and/or production operators to ensure correct production of the products
    • Actively utilize sewing equipment to show processes and procedures to trainer and production operators
  • Maintaining Cost Efficiencies
    • Work with Product Developer to create bill of materials and bill of labor for new products
    • Review and maintain production rates through MTM studies, time studies
    • Manage new product development costs from initial concept to customer presentation
  • Quality Assurance Coordination
    • Create and document quality standards
    • Establish tolerances
    • Communicate Quality specifications to the Quality Auditor and work to establish a solid protocol for compliance
  • Maintain standards for UL certification and do ongoing testing for compliance
  • Required Qualifications

    • Proficiency in garment construction including pattern making and grading
    • Experience in apparel specific ERP, PLM, CAD (Pattern Making, Digitizing, and Marker Making) systems – Knowledge of Optitex a plus
    • Strong knowledge of sewing techniques material requirements, labor routings and costing
    • Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in MS Excel
    • Experience in technical drawing (such as Adobe Illustrator)

    This position require that the employee work on site at the Summerville, South Carolina office.
